SELINSGROVE, PA - Susquehanna University played host Thursday and Friday to the River Hawk Multi, welcoming competitors from all three NCAA Divisions for two days of the men's decathlon. By Friday evening a new school decathlon was hung at Doug Arthur Stadium as
Brandon Zimmerman finished things off with 6,434 points. This stood as the top Division III mark and sixth overall.
The two-day event featured two waves, beginning with the Orange Group. On day one Thursday for the orange
Charles Montross ran 11.58 in third place for the 100-meter. First-year
Nikolai Lulewich, on his birthday, finished in tenth place running 11.96. During the long jump, Montross placed fifth with 6.45 meters. Lulewich with 5.72 meters placed tenth. In Shot Put, Montross threw 8.79 meters while Lulewich threw a distance of 6.90 meters. Montross in second place, jumped 1.86 meters in High Jump. In eighth place, Lulewich jumped 1.77 meters. In the 400-meter, Lulewich claimed fifth place with a PR of 53.47 while Montross ran a PR of 53.98 in seventh. Montross sat with 3154 points following Thursday in fourth place, while Lulewich in eleventh accumulated 2751 points.
In the Maroon group, senior
Brandon Zimmerman finished in first place with 10.67. In tenth place, senior Ben Bulger with 11.36, behind him junior
Rowan Smith with a PR of 11.37. Zimmerman took second place with a jump of 6.95 meters in Long Jump. Bulger in seventh, jumped a PR 6.59 and Smith jumped a PR of 6.38 meters. Smith threw 10.63 meters, while Zimmerman threw a PR of 10.51 meters in Shot Put. Bulger threw 10.07 meters. Smith in third place jumped 1.85 meters in High Jump. Zimmerman jumped 1.82 meters in eighth place. Bulger in tenth place jumped 1.76 meters. In the 400-meter, Bulger a PR of 48.94 in second place. Zimmerman in fourth place PRs with 49.31 while Smith ran 52.27 in eleventh place. Zimmerman wrapped day one with 3,744 points in third place, while Bulger had 3,447 points in seventh place and Smith ninth place with 3357 points.
The orange group opened Friday morning with the 110-meter hurdles. Montross placed second with a 15.42 time. In third place, first-year
Nikolai Lulewich ran 16.01. During the discus, Montross threw a PR of 28.59 meters in seventh while Lulewich threw 19.99 meters. In Pole Vault, Montross in ninth place vaults, a PR of 3.20 meters. Lulewich vaults 3.00 meters in tenth place. Montross threw a PR of 26.46 meters while Lulewich 23.71 meters in Javelin. In the final 1500-meter Lulewich in fifth place runs 4:55.24 while Montross ran a PR of 5:36.33. The total scores put Montross with 5415 points in sixth place and Lulewich in eleventh place with 4911 points.
For the Maroon group, seniors
Brandon Zimmerman and Ben Bulger took first and second place. Zimmerman with a PR of 14.88 and Bulger with 15.35. Junior
Rowan Smith, in fifth place ran a time of 16.01. In Discuss, Smith placed ninth with a huge PR of 29.82 meters. Zimmerman in tenth thew 29.74 meters and Bulger threw 28.00 meters. During Pole Vault, Bulger vaulted a PR of 3.60 meters in eighth place. Smith in tenth vaulted his previous PR of 3.40 meters with Zimmerman right behind with 3.30 meters.
In the javelin, Bulger threw 43.00 meters in eighth place. Smith threw a PR of 39.72 meters while Zimmerman threw 38.09 meters. In the final 1500-meter, Bulger ran a PR of 4:49.67 in fifth place. Zimmerman ran 5:06.86 while Smith ran 5:19.57. Overall, Zimmerman placed sixth with 6434 points, breaking the decathlon record set by Joey Masser in 2023 with 6,255 points. Bulger with 6296 points placed eighth and Smith in thirteenth place scored 5897 points.
Friday evening also lent itself to a series of track races to open up Susquehanna's River Hawk Field Meet, with the field events happening Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. In the 110 hurdles, first-year Calder Diakite finished in first place with a PR of 14.53. In the 1500-meter, sophomore
Asa Alderman finished with 4:13.21 in first place. First-year
Thomas McGann finished in second with a PR of 4:13.24. Senior TJ Grenda ran 4:13.82 in fourth place. Senior
Christian Calderaro with 4:25.33 placed in seventh. Sophomore
Ian Anderson ran in ninth place with a PR of 4:26.31. Sophomore
