ITHACA, NY - The Susquehanan University women's track and field team turned in another positive outing Saturday at Ithaca College's Bomber Invite. While many familiar names produced good results, the day also lent itself to a re-up of the team pole vault record thanks to
Kendall Simms. After breaking the record last weekend at 3.42m, Simms went higher and cleared Ithaca's 3.47m bar to finish third overall.
ON THE TRACK
- Newcomer Alyssa Varias posted a respectable 9.97 in the 60-meter hurdles prelims, just missing the final cut by .006 seconds. She also ran the 400 meters in a time of 1:10.82.
- Senior Ashley Newman ran the fastest time in her heat during the 200 meters at 27.49, good for 12th overall.
- Susquehanna was well-represented in the 3,000 meters as Sophia Bostwick ran the third-fastest time at 10:43.51. Alison Sponseller, EmmaLia Ciccarello and Griane Reed went 10th, 11th, and 12th, respectively as Sponseller clocked in at 11:25.43, while Reed ran 11:29.80 and Schlosser 11:31.02. Riley Schlosser finished 14th at 11:35.73, while Ayla Kerwan turned in a 15h-place finish at 11:39.22.
- Katie Wojton ran 2:36.92 in the 800 meters to lead the team and finish 22nd overall, while Gabby Howe earned a 2.37:46 time for 24th.
IN THE FIELD
- First-year Kendall Simms broke the school record in the pole vault for the second straight week. After setting a new standard at 3.42m last Saturday, she made it to 3.47m at Ithaca, clearing it on her third try.
- Charlotte Houle cleared 1.44m in the high jump.
- Bella Dauberman led the team in the shot put, throwing for 10.63m, good for 15th overall. Abigail Haskell also cracked the top 20 with her 10.34m throw on her third and last attempt good for 19th overall. Keira Carbone also measured in over the 10-meter mark at 10.20, while Paulina Biagioni threw for 10.02m.
- Keira Carbone led Susquehanna in the weight throw at 12.67m with her third try, while Haskell also surpassed 12 meters at 12.04m on her third throw. Emma Szabo, Dauberman, and Dani Phillips came in over 11 meters as Szabo threw for 11.43m, Dauberman 11.35m, and Phillips 11.29m.
UP NEXT FOR THE RIVER HAWKS
- The River Hawks return home this Friday for the Friday Night Showdown Feb. 6. The following weekend they'll be split between the Nazareth Division III Elite Meet and hosting their Valentine's Invite.
