Men Capture Fourth Consecutive Landmark Indoor Title

LANDOVER, MD – Susquehanna University's men's track and field team hit all the right strides Saturday to take command of the leaderboard and break a few more records in the process as they captured their fourth straight Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship. Taking place at Prince George's Sports Complex, the men finished first in six events, including three individual wins by Brandon Zimmerman, as the River Hawks clinched the win with 201 points, 51 ahead of second-place Moravian, the only other team that has won Landmark Indoors in the league's history. Head Coach Ethan Senecal and company were also accorded the Landmark's Men's Coaching Staff of the Year.

Zimmerman was awarded the Landmark's Track Athlete of the Year as he finished with four gold medals on the day, three on his own in the 60 meters, 60 hurdles, and the long jump, and as a key part of the men's 4x400 team that set a new championship meet record at 3:22.48 with Mason Winslow, Aidan Diglio, and Benjamin Bulger. Zimmerman qualified for the 60-meter finals after a prelim time of 6.95, then shaved that down by .03 secconds to win the title at 6.92. With the implements up, Zimmerman ran a similar distance with an 8.59 time in the 60-meter hurdle prelims, then broke off to a winning time in the finals at 8.25. He made his way to the pits for the long jump, winning with his third attempt at 6.64m. Fellow horizontal jumper Jackson Mabry made it a sweep in the pits, winning the triple jump with his fifth jump of 13.33m, while Deatrick Moyer celebrated his first competitive indoor season in fourth at 12.43m, jumping no less than 12.14m on all six attempts.

Winslow racked up another victory with his 22.24 time in the 200 meters, leading four River Hawks in the top five above Dominc Santos' second-place time of 22.53, first-year Henry Notarfrancesco fourth at 23.01, and Jordan Donahay fifth at 23.10. Winslow then ran the second-fastest time in the 400, coming in at 50.03 with Bulger fourth at 51.08, Diglio sixth at 51.16, and Notarfrancesco seventh at 51.20. It was a 1-3 sweep in the 60 hurdles as Zimmerman was joined alongside second-place finisher Carter Smink at 8.27 and Bulger in third at 8.39. Rowan Smith and Charles Montross added more points in the podium in the 60H, with Smith fifth at 8.71 and Montross seventh at 8.73. Also on the podium in the 60-meter dash for Susquehanna was Austin Hurrell in sixth at 7.05 and Dominic Santos seventh at 7.08. Perhaps most impressive was Susquehanna taking up space on the podium after the long jump. Following Zimmerman's winning jump was Montross in second at 6.58m, Bulger third at 6.45m, Hurrell fourth at 6.36m, Jackson Mabry seventh at 6.23m, and Smith eighth at 6.18m.

Montross added a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.92m, while Smith in fourth jumped 1.82m. Gathering points also for SU in the high jump were Nikolai Lulewich and Bilal Abdelnabi in sixth and seventh, respectively, both at 1.77m, while junior Marcus Moyer cleared 1.72m for 10th place. Sophomore pole vaulter Seth Taub earned bronze after needing just two tries to clear 4.10m, while Lance Engel earned sixth after clearing 3.80m. The weight throw continued to bear great success for Cole Goodwin, who finished fourth after his final throw landed at 13.39m. He finished similarly in the shot put, with his final throw again carrying him to that spot at 14.04m.

In the opening 5,000 meters, first-year Thomas McGann placed 11th with a time of 16:27.20. In the Distance Medley, first-year Aaron Kolosowsky, junior Justin Weychert, sophomore Ian Anderson and senior TJ Grenda ran with a collective time of 10:54.12 for fifth place. In the 4x200 relay, first-years Henry Notarfrancesco, Aidan Diglio, Jordan Donahay, and senior Ezra Miller, finished in second place with a 1:31.50 time. During the Mile, sophomore Asa Alderman PR'd with a time of 4:30.55 in sixth place. In the 800 meters Aaron Kolosowsky logged a PR of 2:01.80 to finish in seventh place.

The River Hawks hope to follow up another banner year with more strong performances ahead these new few weeks of indoors, beginning with the AARTFC Championships next weekend, Friday, Mar. 7 to Saturday, Mar. 8, at Ithaca College. From there Susquehanna looks to field competitors the next weekend in Rochester for the NCAA Division III National Championships Friday, Mar. 14 to Saturday, Mar. 15.
