Athletics Hall of Fame
Dick Hess retired from coaching the women’s track and field team in 1999 after a career that was highlighted by winning the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Title in 1995. He coached track and field during the 1990s and also mentored the cross-country team from 1994-98. He guided five teams to undefeated seasons and during his tenure, 16 of the 18 women’s track records were broken. Six of the eight record-breaking athletes are in the hall of fame. He was honored at the 2002 senior Pennsylvania games as the Athlete of the Year and prior to his time at Susquehanna he was the Air Force Track and Field coach in the Far East and trained athletes for the 1960 Olympic games.
