Nick earned three letters in football and four in baseball, starting every game of his baseball career. He was captain in both sports as a senior and played four different positions in football. The team's football MVP as a junior, he also earned All-Lutheran College 2nd team honors as a senior fullback. He shared the Kiwanis Award for four years "brilliance in football". Nick still hold the 2nd highest kickoff return average at 31.3 yards per return. He maintained a field average of .918 for four years at shortstop.
