A four-year letter winner and co-captain in both football and basketball, Zubak was a member of the 1940 undefeated SU football squad. He earned a place in the backfield of the second team college all-american squad in 1942. Besides his duties as a quarterback and fullback, Zubak played both gaurd and end. He was also placed on the Pennsylvania all-star team and Jack Benny's all-america team 1942. Zubak was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles but was called into service before the 1943 season began.
