Prnell was quarterback and co-captain of S.U.'s 1956 and '57 football teams. Winning Associated Press Little All-America in 1956 when he accounted for 1,072 total yards. He also won Honorable Mention and Third Team All-State Honors in his junior and senior years. In 1958 he quarterbacked the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.
