McNitt was both a jumper and a hurdler for the Crusaders as a senior, He was an All-American in the triple jump. That same season he won the MAC triple jump, took fourth in the high hurdles and seventh in the high jump as a junior. McNitt also qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the triple jump with his mark of 47'250". In addition , he was a member of the 1994 and 1995 MAC Championship Teams
