Earning four letters in basketball as a lanky forward, the 6'7" Gabel scored 1,414 points and gathered 640 rebounds. He was a MAC North All-Star in both his junior and senior years, leading his team to a 70-36 record, three MAC playoffs, and a NCAA tournament berth in 1984.
