Halfback for the undefeated 1940 grid team, Issacs amassed 498 yards rushing that year as a sophomore, with an amazing 9.6 yards per carry, despite playing at a weight of 142 pounds. He is also noted for playing outstanding ball for the 1942 team, which was riddled by injuries and loss of players to the armed services.
