As head football coach from 1985-89 Rocky compiled a 36-15-1 record. He tied the NCAA D-III record for single-season improvement with an 11-1 mark in 1986. He was MAC Coach of the year in '86. As his first team earned SU's first-ever NCAA playoff berth. His 1989 team was MAC Co-Champs. His most notable game was a dramatic come-from-behind win over Lycoming, 43-42 in 1986.
