Owens was a two-sport athletic setting records in the shot-put and leading the football squad. Son spear-headed the defense as a line-backer and the offense as a tackle on the 1970 championship team. His shot-putting established a SU record at that time and helped his squad to the M.A.C. Title under coach Ron Thorne.
