Tom enjoyed a four-year playing career on the football team where he spent time as both an offensive and defensive lineman and was also a member of the special teams unit. He served as the team captain in 1970. The same year in which he was named an All-Conference player. He was a two-time recipient of the teams "Most aggressive player" award.
